Liam Gallagher has said the chance to tour "the most important album of the '90s" in its entirety has left him "bouncing around the house".

The ex-Oasis singer has announced a series of shows in 2024 which will see him perform the whole of his former band's debut Definitely Maybe.

Released in August 1994, the album shot the Manchester band to superstardom and sold millions of copies worldwide.

The announcement of the tour, which will open in Sheffield before visiting Cardiff, London, Manchester, Glasgow and Dublin, ends fan speculation that the much-loved band would reform to celebrate the album's 30th anniversary.

Many had hoped that Gallagher's shows at Knebworth in 2022 and his brother Noel's recent dates, which included a homecoming show at Wythenshawe Park, were precursors to the band coming together for the first time since their split in 2009.

Those hopes were fuelled by Noel in January when he told BBC Radio Manchester he would "never say never" about an Oasis reunion.

Gallagher said he was looking forward to the dates.

"I'm bouncing around the house to announce the Definitely Maybe Tour," he said.

"The most important album of the '90s, bar none."

Addressing fans directly, he added: "I wouldn't be anywhere without it and neither would you, so let's celebrate together."

A representative for the singer said it would be the first time Gallagher had performed Definitely Maybe in full.

"The sets will, of course, be packed with classics [such as] Rock 'n' Roll Star, Live Forever, Supersonic and 'Cigarettes & Alcohol, to name but a few," they said.

"But it will also be a rare opportunity to see other album tracks that have rarely, if ever, been performed since the mid-'90s, including Up In The Sky and Digsy's Dinner."

They added that the shows would also see Gallagher perform other Oasis songs from the period, including a number of B-sides.

"There are numerous fan favourites that could be performed from the other songs that were released during the Definitely Maybe era, which could potentially include another big hit in the shape of Whatever, as well as deep cuts such as Fade Away, Listen Up and Sad Song," they added.

Tickets for the shows go on sale on Friday.

On Saturday, October 14, the moon will pass directly between the Earth and the sun, casting its shadow across Earth’s surface.

Those in the path of the shadow — mainly in the Western United States, Mexico, and in Central and South America — will be able to look up and see a spectacular event: an annular “ring of fire” solar eclipse.

This weekend’s path notably passes through the Navajo Nation and lands of other Indigenous people in the Four Corners region where these celestial events have particular cultural significance. Citizens of the Navajo Nation, the Diné people, avoid going outside, looking at the eclipse, or allowing the light of the eclipse to shine on them. Some tribal lands, including all Navajo Tribal Parks and the iconic Monument Valley, will be closed to visitors on Saturday to respect cultural traditions. (For Diné readers, a content warning: We have included a photo of a previous annular eclipse below.)

Unlike a total solar eclipse, where the moon blocks out the entirety of the sun, during an annular eclipse, a little light around the edges of the moon still creeps through.

That’s because annular eclipses occur when the moon is a bit farther away from the Earth in its orbit. That extra distance makes the moon appear to be slightly smaller than the sun, allowing a bright halo to cast around it.

This is where the “ring of fire” name comes from. These eclipses look like this. Cool, right? (But don’t stare into it directly. More on that below.) It’s a somewhat rare sight. There will only be 12 more annular eclipses this decade, spread across the globe.แทงบอล

In the United States, the eclipse will be visible (weather permitting) from parts of Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Arizona, according to NASA.

The eclipse will begin in Oregon at 9:13 am Pacific Time, and end in the US in Texas at 12:03 pm Central Time, before crossing over Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, and beyond to Brazil.

Check the map below for information about when the path of the eclipse will cover your area of the US. Only people located in the shaded band will see the full ring of fire.

Why do we have solar eclipses?
There’s a simple answer: The moon occasionally covers the sun in its path across the sky. But it’s more complicated than that. Three cosmic conditions have to be met to produce the shadow.

1) There has to be a new moon

One side of the moon is always lit by the sun, but the lit side isn’t always facing the Earth. This is how we get the phases of the moon. For a solar eclipse to occur, it needs to be in its “new moon” phase.

During the new moon, the dark side of the moon is directly facing the Earth.

2) The moon has to cross the plane of Earth’s orbit

If the dark side of the moon has to be facing the Earth for a solar eclipse to occur, why don’t we have them every new moon? That’s because the moon’s orbit isn’t perfectly matched up with the Earth’s.

And that’s because the moon is tilted on a 5-degree axis (no one is completely sure why the moon is slightly skewed, but it might have to do with how it was likely formed: from a massive object smashing into Earth).

This means during most new moons, the shadow misses the Earth.

But there are two points in the moon’s orbit where the shadow can fall on the Earth. These are called nodes.

3) The moon’s distance to the Earth

You might remember this from middle school science: The moon’s orbit around the Earth is not a perfect circle. It’s an ellipse.

There’s a point in the orbit where the moon is farthest away from the sun and a point where it’s closest. For a total eclipse to occur, the moon needs to be near its closest approach to Earth.

If the eclipse occurs when the moon is close, it will totally block out the sun. If it’s farther away, we get a ring of fire.

If you’re going to observe the eclipse, be careful!
On a normal day, staring straight into the sun can harm your eyes. An eclipsed sun is no different.

NASA warns: “It is never safe to look directly at the sun’s rays.” The intense light from the sun can damage your retina and cause a “permanent scotoma or ‘blind spot’ in the central vision,” according to the Lancet.

The intensity of light radiating from a partial or annular eclipse can still cause retinal damage. “Even when 99 percent of the Sun’s surface (the photosphere) is obscured during the partial phases of a solar eclipse, the remaining crescent Sun is still intense enough to cause a retinal burn, even though illumination levels are comparable to twilight,” NASA explains.

The safest way to observe an eclipse is indirectly — either by projecting it onto a screen through a pinhole or by looking through a specially designed filter.

If you miss this eclipse, there’s another one coming in 2024
If the weather doesn’t cooperate tomorrow (you can’t see an eclipse through clouds) or if you can’t make it to the path of the shadow, you’re not entirely out of luck. There’s another eclipse coming to the US in 2024. And that one will be a total eclipse, where the moon blocks out the entirety of the sun, creating a truly awesome view. During total solar eclipses, you can see the sun’s ethereal corona — its atmosphere — with the naked eye.

It will occur on April 8, 2024, and pass over much of the Eastern United States. Mark your calendars.

Senator Mushtaq Ahmed of the Jamaat-e-Islami party called it "shameful". Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul-Haq Kakar even ordered an investigation. Online chatter amongst Pakistani men in particular has been scathing.

But what is sparking such outrage?

A 24-year-old woman.

Erica Robin, a Christian from the city of Karachi, is going to represent deeply conservative Pakistan at the Miss Universe beauty pageant.

Ms Robin was chosen as Miss Universe Pakistan from among five finalists at a competition held in the Maldives.

It was organised by Dubai-based Yugen Group, which also owns the franchise rights to Miss Universe Bahrain and Miss Universe Egypt. It said the Miss Universe Pakistan competition had received an "overwhelming" number of applications.

The Miss Universe finals will be held in El Salvador in November.

Backlash and support
"It feels great to represent Pakistan. But I don't understand where the backlash is coming from. I think it is this idea that I would be parading in a swimsuit in a room full of men," Ms Robin told the BBC.
Those criticising her nomination say she is representing a country that does not want to be represented, especially as beauty pageants are rare in Muslim-majority Pakistan.

Miss Pakistan World, a pageant for women of Pakistani descent from around the world, is probably the most well-known. It was first held in Toronto in 2002 but moved to Lahore in 2020. The competition has also seen various spin offs such as Miss Pakistan Universal, Mrs Pakistan Universal and even Miss Trans Pakistan.

In the competition's 72-year history, Pakistan has never nominated a representative for Miss Universe.

Ms Robin recalled that during the second selection round of the pageant which was held over Zoom, she was asked to name one thing she wanted to do for her country. "And I replied, I would want to change this mindset that Pakistan is a backward country."

This may be difficult, given some of the hostile responses to her nomination.

Nevertheless, models, writers and journalists alike congratulated Ms Robin, with journalist Mariana Babar hailing her "beauty and brains" on X, formerly known as Twitter.

But as Pakistani model Vaneeza Ahmed, who first encouraged Ms Robin to get into modelling, told Voice of America Urdu: "When these men are fine with international competitions called 'Mister Pakistan', why do they have a problem with a woman's achievement?"

From rock and roll to Islamic Republic
"We are a nation of many contradictions and women and the marginalised trigger us the most," Karachi-based writer and commentator Rafay Mehmood told the BBC.

"Pakistan is at large an authoritarian state and that reflects in the harsh patriarchal values it enables both institutionally and socially. Erica Robin and the policing she has faced is an extension of that," he added.

But there exists an archive of a Pakistan that was once far more liberal.

Copies of the Dawn newspaper from the 1950s to the late 1970s have advertisements of cabaret and foreign belly dancers performing at a club near the former Elphinstone Street in downtown Karachi. These nightclubs were frequented by activists, diplomats, politicians, air hostesses and young people.

The historic Metropole Hotel in Karachi was also a favoured spot for singing and jazz performances.

But in 1973, Pakistan's parliament created a constitution that declared the country an Islamic Republic and Islam as the state religion.

Four years later, military leader General Zia ul-Haq overthrew the government of Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. What followed in the decade after has been called a "draconian phase" by activists and lawyers as Islamic law was enforced and Pakistani society was drastically altered.

By the mid-1980s, General Zia had even resurrected public flogging to show his commitment to Islamic law.

Today, the nightclubs and bars are long gone, and the Metropole Hotel looks more like it is in danger of collapsing. Just down the road, a skeletal structure of what was initially supposed to be a casino stands abandoned.เว็บไซต์แทงบอลออนไลน์

But the yearning for a freer, more tolerant Pakistan has not gone away, and Ms Robin is just one of those pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable and what is not. The graduate of St Patrick's High School and Government College of Commerce and Economics, is adamant that she has done nothing wrong.

"I'm not breaking any law by representing Pakistan on a global platform. I am doing my bit to quell any stereotypes about it," she said.

Today (Oct. 9, 2023) is Columbus Day. In Alabama, the day is also American Indian Heritage Day and Fraternal Day. Nationally, it is a federal holiday known as  Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Columbus Day.

Columbus Day recognizes Italian explorer Christopher Columbus making landfall in the Americas in 1492. It is celebrated each year on the second Monday of October which falls on Oct. 9th this year.
Columbus Day has become a controversial holiday in recent years. Native Americans and other groups have protested the idea of celebrating an event that marks the start of the colonization of the Americas and the displacement of indigenous people.
